About Family Bites & Flights
Real family travel. Smart budgets. Great food. Honest reviews.
Hi, we’re Jennifer, Daniel, and Madison.
We’re an American family currently based in Berlin, Germany, though Westchester, New York will always feel like home.
We love travel, good food, finding ridiculously good flight deals, and proving that having a child doesn’t mean your passport has to collect dust—it just means you travel a little differently.
Family Bites & Flights was created because somewhere between Instagram reels and real life, travel started looking a little too perfect.
You know the posts.
Crystal-clear water. Empty beaches. Perfect hotel rooms. Smiling kids in every photo.
What you don’t see is the delayed flight, the wrong turn in a new city, the rainy afternoon plans that fall apart, or the moment you give up on “doing it all” and end up eating McDonald’s in a hotel bed watching a movie because everyone is exhausted.
And honestly? We love those moments too.
Our Travel Story
Long before Madison came along, we were traveling as college students on a budget.
That meant cheap flights to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, all-inclusive resorts when they made sense, and learning quickly that travel isn’t about how much you spend—it’s about how you experience it.
As life changed, so did our travel style. We started exploring beyond resorts, chasing great local food, and figuring out how to stretch every trip a little further.
Then we discovered travel rewards and points, and everything changed.
Our honeymoon in Thailand was the turning point. It wasn’t just the beaches—it was the waterfalls, the hiking, the night markets, and the realization that our best travel memories almost always happened when we weren’t trying to follow a perfect plan.
From that point on, we built our travel philosophy around one simple idea:
The price determines the destination.
If there’s a great flight deal, we’re interested.
If there’s a strong points redemption, we’re packing.
If flights are too expensive, we’re planning a road trip instead.
Where You’ll Find Us
Home base is Berlin, Germany, which gives us the chance to explore Europe one school break at a time.
During Easter break, fall break, and any long weekend we can reasonably justify, we’re usually somewhere in Germany or exploring another part of Europe.
Every summer, we spend about six weeks in New York and Pennsylvania visiting family, eating all the foods we miss, and reconnecting with the places that shaped us.
Living abroad has taught us something simple but important:
Some of the best trips aren’t bucket-list destinations—they’re the ones you take because the flight was cheap, the train ride was easy, or you just felt like getting away for a few days.
Our Travel Philosophy
Family travel doesn’t have to be complicated.
With realistic expectations, a flexible mindset, and a reasonable budget, almost any trip can work.
One of the biggest misconceptions about traveling with kids is that you need to see everything.
We’ve tried that approach.
We came home exhausted and wondering if we needed a vacation from our vacation.
Now we focus on balance—one or two main activities a day, plenty of downtime, playground stops, good food, and space for things to go wrong without the whole trip falling apart.
We’ve also learned that having fewer expectations often leads to better trips. It’s hard to be disappointed when you’re open to being surprised.
Food, Flights, and Real Life
Despite the name Family Bites & Flights, we’re not food critics.
We’re just people who really love good food.
Sometimes that means finding an incredible local restaurant we’ll talk about for weeks.
Sometimes it means a spontaneous café or street food stop we didn’t plan.
And sometimes it means ordering McDonald’s or Uber Eats to the hotel room and calling it a win because nobody has the energy to go back out again.
No judgment here.
Travel isn’t about perfect moments—it’s about the real ones you actually remember.
