MALTA FAMILY ITINERARY (5–7 DAYS)
Why We Ended Up in Malta
Honest Travel Guide After Escaping a Berlin Winter
After what felt like an endless Berlin winter, we originally planned a very different Easter trip — Iceland. It sounded organised and adventurous, until reality hit and we realised what we actually wanted was simple: sunshine, warmth, and a break from winter coats. So we booked Malta last minute as a family trip and built our itinerary as we went. This guide is a real 5–7 day Malta itinerary with kids, based on what we actually did, not a perfect brochure plan.
Where to Stay in Malta with Kids
AX ODYCY Hotel (Family-Friendly Base)
We stayed at the AX ODYCY Hotel for 7 nights with breakfast.
Why it worked well:
- indoor heated pool (perfect for April weather)
- kids club during the day as well as in the evenings (10:00am – 12:00pm, 3:00 – 5:00pm, 8:00–9:30 pm)
- walking distance to Malta Aquarium
- good base for exploring north Malta
- All inclusive option available
- Many onsite restaurants (some with indoor playgrounds)
Reality check:
The area is still developing and there is ongoing construction, but it is practical and well-located for families with or without a car.
Renting a Car in Malta (What You Should Know)
We rented a car via Kayak and ended up with Hertz for around €85 for the week.
Important things to know:
- driving is on the left side
- roads are very narrow in many areas
- parking can be challenging in busy spots
- Google Maps is helpful but not always perfect
Insurance experience:
We declined extra insurance and were warned about potential damages up to €11,000, which became a running joke during the trip.
Tip: Always take a full video of your rental car before leaving.
